Setup takes about two minutes per class. Once you turn on Trek Adventure for a class, every student in it can start reading right away. There’s nothing to assign and no due dates.

Turn on Trek Adventure

1

Open Trek Adventure

Log in to Trek Learning and click Trek Adventure in the left menu. It opens in a new window and lists all your classes.
2

Click Enable Reading

Find the class and click Enable Reading. A short setup opens.
3

Choose language and level

Set the story language, the reading level, the difficulty, how often students make choices, and which genres they can pick from. See Settings explained below.
4

Add vocabulary and grammar (optional)

Add words from your spelling or vocabulary list, or a grammar concept you’re teaching. Trek works them into each story. You can skip this step.
5

Set up quizzes

Choose how often quizzes appear and how many questions each one has.
6

Review and enable

Check the summary, then click Enable Reading. Trek Adventure is now live for that class.

Settings explained

Change settings later

After you turn on Trek Adventure, click the gear icon next to the class to open Class Settings. Changes save automatically. In Class Settings you can:
  • Change the language, choice frequency, and quiz settings.
  • Turn on dyslexia-friendly fonts for the whole class.
  • Show or hide the class leaderboard.
  • Switch the Reading Mode (see below).

Reading modes

The default mode. Students pick any genre you allow, and stories include your vocabulary words.
For early readers. Stories focus on the grammar and phonics concepts you add, so students practice the patterns they’re learning.
Write a Custom Prompt to set the topic of every story. For example: “Make the story about how photosynthesis works.” Use it to connect reading to science, social studies, or any unit you’re teaching.Watch: Custom Topic Mode

Track student reading

The Trek Adventure page shows each student’s progress at a glance: points, current book, genre, reading level, last quiz score, pages read, and last activity. Use the search box or class filter to find a student. To see more, click the ⋮ menu next to a student:
  • Story History: every book they’ve read or started, with a summary and the full text of their story.
  • Latest Quizzes: scores, dates, and each answer.

Leaderboard and points

Students earn points from quizzes. The class leaderboard shows the top five readers only. Students outside the top five never see their rank. Instead, they see how many points they need to move up. You can hide the leaderboard any time in Class Settings.

Tips for the first week

Start on level, then adjust. Choose On-level for the first week. Then check Latest Quizzes before you change the difficulty.
  • Let students choose. Leave Choice Frequency on Always at first. Having control is what keeps students reading.
  • Plan for the reading timer. Each page has a short timer before students can move on. This helps them read instead of skipping ahead.
  • Use a custom topic for a unit. Switch to Custom mode to turn this week’s science or history topic into a story.
