# Features & Functionality

> [accordion] What are the differences between the three types of proofreading options?
>
> The proofreading options are:
>
> * **Detailed:** Analyzes the rubric line by line.
> * **Holistic:** Provides a summary-style overview.
> * **Elementary:** A simpler, kid-friendly approach.

> [accordion] What type of feedback does Trek Learning provide for student-uploaded papers?
>
> The student version provides detailed feedback.

> [accordion] What is journaling in Trek Learning?
>
> Journaling is a reflection tool, primarily designed for elementary students. It encourages students to expand on topics based on teacher prompts.

> [accordion] What is the daily chat limit for Trek Learning?
>
> The default cap is 100+ chats per day, but it can be increased if needed.

> [accordion] Can Trek Learning detect AI-generated content?
>
> No, we do not currently support AI detection due to high false positive rates. However, Trek Learning offers tools to design AI-resistant assignments and allows teachers to review all student chats for academic integrity.

> [accordion] If someone accidentally inputs sensitive data into Trek, is there a way to erase portions/logs if needed?
>
> Yes, we can erase sensitive data if needed. While we do not have an automated detection system for sensitive information, we provide warnings advising against entering personal data. Additionally, Trek Learning operates within a secure environment where only designated teachers and admins have access. No data is shared or sold to third parties. We're currently working with Common Sense Privacy to evaluate our practices and initial results put us in the mid 90's on the scorecard, which would be in the top 1% in our category.

> [accordion] I'm hesitant about my students using AI. I want them to think for themselves.
>
> Trek Learning is designed to support, not replace student thinking. Instead of giving direct answers, it uses a Socratic-style approach that guides students with questions and prompts, helping them work through concepts independently and strengthen their critical thinking skills.

> [accordion] Will Trek Learning support my ELL students?
>
> Trek Learning is designed to support diverse learners, including English Language Learners (ELLs). The platform provides guided instruction, scaffolded prompts, and adaptive support to help students better understand content and build language skills alongside subject mastery.

> [accordion] What triggers a social-emotional alert?
>
> A social-emotional alert is triggered when a student message contains language that may indicate emotional distress, safety concerns, or wellbeing risks such as regarding self-harm, violence, weapons, suicide, abuse, or other self-harming activities.

> [accordion] How will I be notified about a social emotional alert?
>
> When a student's chat triggers a social emotional alert, everyone designated as a social emotional recipient will receive an email notification.

> [accordion] Can students see that an alert was triggered?
>
> Trek Learning will redirect the student to a trusted adult. Alerts are only sent to designated social-emotional recipients. They can then determine the appropriate next steps.

> [accordion] Are there guardrails to prevent inappropriate content?
>
> Trek Learning includes built-in guardrails to filter sensitive or inappropriate topics. If any concerns arise, social alerts are automatically sent to designated social-emotional support recipients for follow-up.

> [accordion] How can a teacher access student chat histories?
>
> Teachers can view student chat histories by navigating to Chat History > Student Chats. From there, they can search for individual 1:1 conversations or use filters such as date, class, and other available criteria to find specific chats.

> [accordion] How does the Announcements feature work?
>
> See this [video](https://www.loom.com/share/8980e849f1ea40adb685f654b2092c45)!

> [accordion] How does Trek avoid/ handle bias?
>
> Trek Learning is designed with safeguards to reduce bias and keep responses accurate and helpful for teachers and students. Our system instructions guide the AI to include diverse representation in examples, stories, and scenarios, while staying true to the historical record when accuracy matters. Additional prompting safeguards help keep responses factual, balanced, and age-appropriate.
>
> No AI tool is completely free of bias, so we also rely on educators as partners. If a user sees a response that seems biased, inaccurate, or inappropriate, they can provide feedback from within the platform or email [help@trekai.org](mailto:help@trekai.org), and our team reviews that feedback to keep improving Trek.

> [accordion] Can Trek write music?
>
> Trek cannot compose music at this time. But we've actually had some teachers use it for creating guitar tabs. You can also use advanced chat (by asking for an image) or the image tool to create musical notations. However, please note LLM's are not ideal for this process and you may see increased errors using that functionality.
